A mobile Library for Children and More
In April of 2005, Children’s Books on Wheels received its certification as a non-profit organization.
Our goal is to promote literacy.
Literacy
is enhanced through after school tutoring, math games, educational support,
storytelling activities, and cultural arts events. Our target population is
pre-K to 12th grade students. The organization provides books for underdeveloped
rural communities, which includes over 300 children, to its mobile service
area of Montgomery County, and Walker County. We provide a variety of books,
pamphlets, brochures, learning materials, diversity reinforcement, and teen
programs. CBOW provides referral and resources for the Texas Health and Human
Services Association applications and brochures for CHIP Children’s
Medicaid, CHIP Perinatal, Food Stamps, Texas Women’s Program we are
available to make presentations and deliver these services.
2-1-1 Texas is a resource program of the Texas Health and Human Services (the number to call when you don’t know who to call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week).
High school job workshops and summer outreach programs are an
important component of CBOW. Our services also
include
information for the prevention of HIV/AIDS and STD’s, Substance Abuse,
and Teen Self-Esteem trainings.
Children’s Books on Wheels maintains the park library located at the Tamina Community Park.
All of the books are donated.
Books are provided to community parks, apartment complexes, day cares, community centers, to at risk children, churches, after school programs, in homes of special needs children, and recently to Katrina and Rita Evacuee children.
